Hi there,

I'm still trying to get alsa 0.9.6 working with my vt8235 chip
with either the via82xx or via82cxxx_audio modules (both are
available according to Mandrake 9.2 Control Center).

My hardware is...

AthlonXP 2500+ Barton
Asrock K7VM4 motherboard with VT8235 southbridge

I'm running Mandrake 9.2 Download edition (kernel 2.4.22-10mdk)
The mandrake installer and alsaconf correctly recognise the 8235
and configure sound for it (althought the resulting configs look
quite different, alsaconf puts more into modules.conf). Sometimes
I see advice to add 'dxs_support=1' to modules.conf

Sometimes I get a tone, but its a sine wave that changes frequency
when I move the volume slider up and down. Sometimes after adding
'dxs_support=1" to modules.conf sound will work, but then
it will stop again without warning after running for less than a
minute (apps playing sound will die, /dev/dsp will vanish). Then
I need to reboot the computer and reconfigure sound to get it to
work briefly again! Extremely strange and very frustrating it is!

In general I've watched audio problems become more frequent on my
machine as newer versions of Mandrake and alsa get installed on it.

I welcome feedback from other vt8235 users who have managed to
fix their issues, as nothing in the docs (scattered as they are)
has helped in the least...
