ALSA supports the AD1985 since 0.9.7.  Support for reconfiguring the
jacks has been added recently, but playing simple stereo data should
work with your version, too.

Maybe.

You could simply disable ALSA in the kernel configuration and compile
the alsa-driver-1.0.1 package seperately.
