When I use the ALSA driver on a Kontron Revolution Series 3000 laptop, I have the following pitch problems:
1. Sounds recorded on my Panasonic laptop sound too high in pitch when played on the Kontron laptop. 2. Sounds recorded on the Kontron laptop sound too low when played on the Panasonic laptop. 3. If I run "arecord -t wav -d 30 kontron.wav" on the Kontron laptop, it only records for 25 seconds then it exits. If I then run "aplay kontron.wav" on the Kontron, it plays for 25 seconds and sounds OK. If I run "alsaplayer kontron.wav" on the Kontron laptop, it plays for 28 seconds and sounds too low in pitch. (Note: Other timed commands, like sleep, work properly on the Kontron.) 4. If I run "arecord -t wav -d 30 panasonic.wav" on the Panasonic laptop, it records for 30 seconds. If I then run either "aplay panasonic.wav" or "alsaplayer panasonic.wav" on the Panasonic, it plays for 30 seconds and sounds OK. 5. If I transfer panasonic.wav to the Kontron laptop, then run "aplay panasonic.wav", it lasts 25 seconds and sounds too high. If I run "alsaplayer panasonic.wav", it lasts 28 seconds and sounds too high. 6. If I transfer kontron.wav to the Panasonic laptop, then run either "aplay panasonic.wav" or "alsaplayer panasonic.wav", it lasts 30 seconds and sounds too low. 7. The Voice Over IP application gnomemeeting (using the ALSA driver) has the same kind of pitch problem when used between the Kontron and Panasonic laptops. According to Alsamixer, the Kontron laptop has the Intel 82801CA-ICH3 sound card and the Analog Devices AD1881A sound chip. The Panasonic laptop has the Intel 82801CA-ICH3 card and the SigmaTel STAC9756/57 chip. I am running Redhat Linux 9.0 on all of the laptops. I am running ALSA version 1.0.0rc2. The only problem that happens when I build the ALSA driver is that the nodes in /dev/snd don't get created by the alsa-driver make install. I have to run snddevices manually. But this happens on all of the laptops, not just the Kontron. Any ideas? Mark Aldous ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Perforce Software.
