I have build kernel only with soundcore.ko module as I have always
done with 2.4.x
I had the same problem today with my DMX6fire (also ice1712).
Recompiling alsa-lib and alsa-tools (1.0.0_rc2), and then restarting
alsasound solved it somehow.
