Tim, I periodiacally see the same problem with my HDSP 9652: Jan 6 04:06:16 Wizard kernel: ALSA ../../alsa-kernel/pci/rme9652/hdsp.c:807: wait for FIFO status <= 0 failed after 100 iterations Jan 6 04:06:16 Wizard kernel: usb.c: deregistering driver snd-usb-audio Jan 6 04:06:31 Wizard kernel: ALSA ../../alsa-kernel/pci/rme9652/hdsp.c:807: wait for FIFO status <= 0 failed after 100 iterations Jan 6 04:06:31 Wizard kernel: usb.c: registered new driver snd-usb-audio Jan 6 04:06:31 Wizard kernel: ALSA ../../alsa-kernel/pci/rme9652/hdsp.c:807: wait for FIFO status <= 0 failed after 100 iterations Jan 6 04:09:44 Wizard kernel: ALSA ../../alsa-kernel/pci/rme9652/hdsp.c:807: wait for FIFO status <= 0 failed after 100 iterations Jan 6 04:09:45 Wizard kernel: usb.c: deregistering driver snd-usb-audio Jan 6 04:09:52 Wizard kernel: ALSA ../../alsa-kernel/pci/rme9652/hdsp.c:807: wait for FIFO status <= 0 failed after 100 iterations Jan 6 04:09:52 Wizard kernel: usb.c: registered new driver snd-usb-audio Jan 6 04:09:52 Wizard kernel: ALSA ../../alsa-kernel/pci/rme9652/hdsp.c:807: wait for FIFO status <= 0 failed after 100 iterations Jan 6 04:10:23 Wizard exiting on signal 15 I have found that most of the time this is caused by 2 things: 1) Booting too quickly. If I give larger time outs during grub then I'm less likely to get this. None the less, this morning I rebooted 4 times and continued to get the problem. For me I had to up my grub timeouts to 30 seconds to get it to work most of the time. (This may not apply to the Digiface/Multiface like it does to the HDSP 9652 which has onboard firmware.) 2) Booting while the machine is cold. Believe it or not, I get this a lot in the morning when the box is physically cold. As I say, I rebooted 4 times this morning and it never worked. I then ran cpuburn (burnK7) for 1 minute, did a Ctrl-C and then a reboot. The card was recognized immediately. ALSA ../../alsa-kernel/pci/rme9652/hdsp.c:5061: Firmware already loaded, initializing card.
