I was really pleased to get this integrated sound card working (ASUS A7V600
motherboard), which was pretty simple to do with kernel 2.6.0 and the recent alsa
patch. I have it compiled into the kernel.

Using dxs_support=2, sound was clear, with good volume.

Then I installed alsa utils, and alsa base on my Knoppix based system, upgraded mostly
to debian unstable. Uninstalled knx-alsa first.

Alsamixer is pretty nice: shows me a LOT of channels, including four related to DXS
(which means what?). I started fooling around with the "<" amd ">" commands and
managed to kill the setup.

I haven't a clue what happened. When booting, the sound card doesn't boot anymore.
I've been combing the Internet, so now I'll try this list. I remember something about
turning the setup on with one of the alsa tools.

I had also tried OSS's demo driver, which worked nicely over a 2.4.22 kernel. But it
seemed to have left some cruft on the system. This time I have tried to "dpkg --purge
" all the alsa utilties, etc. And delete module related files in /etc/.

The question comes up: should one install the utilities when using the kernel alsa
code (w/ patch)?

I'm lost in soundcard land once again.

Sound cards have been a major headache, even with a SBLive, but I haven't tried alsa
for that.
