Alex, I am neither an owner of the card nor much of a user of spdif under Alsa. My thought is that you would need to do two things: 1) Using alsamixer, or should there be a specific mixer for your hardware, choose the spdif output in this mixer and raise its output level. 2) Using whatever options you have available, route the audio you are interested in to this output. The Linux tools for the newer RME cards are pretty good in this respect, so possibly there are some good tools for your card also.
