This weekend I'm struggeling to get Macromedia flash player plugin
6.0r79 to work. The old 5.0r51 did.

In general alsa works well, for example with xmms or alsamixer. But when
a flash wants to play a sound, the workstation freezes. When I
deactivate the soundcore module in the kernel and the autoload of the
alsa modules, the flash animation is shown and no freeze appears.

To find out, which alsa module causes the freeze, I activated one
of the following module-lines after the other. As soon as "alias
sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss" is active, the flash sound crashes the
PC:

# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-sb16
# module options should go here

# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

# card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

It makes no difference if I use the flash plugin in Opera or Mozilla
Firebird. Even the standalone version of flash hangs.

Because the proprietary :-( Macromedia plugin is already in the latest
version - is an alsa version or workaround known, that runs with 6.0r79
flashplayer?

Current Environment:

Debian GNU/Linux (testing)
Standard Kernel 2.4.23
Alsa 1.0.0rc2
Opera 7.23
Multimedia audio controller: Cyrix Corporation 5530 Audio [Kahlua]

What is the package "OSS Compat. Library" on the alsa homepage for?
I did not compile it - do I need it?

Could it help to compile the soundcore module static in the kernel or
leave it as loadable kernel-module as actual?

This is my first posting to the group, because I can't find a solution
after hours.

Kind regards,
Oliver
