However I did not have a time to play with the problem.
Maybe the problem is that snd_oss_seq (or stg. like that - OSS emulation support for sequencer) module is not loaded.
Have you tried the older version of Alsa ?

I found just about the same problem listed here: http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/12350/2001/9/200/6611505/
There were no solutions suggested.
Soundfonts don't load. Midi players don't work. They say: /dev/sequencer: No such device or address
It's there.
cat /proc/asound/seq/drivers snd-seq-oss,loaded,0 snd-emu10k1-synth,empty,1 snd-seq-midi,empty,1
cat /proc/asound/oss/devices 1: : sequencer 8: : sequencer 2: [0- 2] : raw midi 0: [0- 2] : mixer 3: [0- 3] : digital audio 12: [0-12] : digital audio
The audio works, but midi doesn't.
I have the aliases listed in the install file in /etc/modutils/alsa (which ends up in /etc/modules.conf)
Can someone please help with this?
Under windows, after puting the card in, I was able to record and play both midi and audio, send to my keyboard, and control external effects in about 10 or 15 minutes. It's been 81 hrs under linux so far and I can't even play a basic midi file yet.
