I'm trying to get the onboard S/PDIF output working on an Asus P4R800-VM motherboard. According to the Asus documentation, I should be using the snd-intel8x0 driver which I can compile fine without any problems. However, when trying to load the snd-intel8x0 module, I get:
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg /lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o: insmod snd-intel8x0 failed I have a sneaking suspicion that the problem could be something to do with a slightly different hardware ID used on the P4R800-VM motherboard (as opposed to the P4P800), although I don't know enough about these things to be sure. I've tried both 0.9.8 and 1.0.0pre3 with the same results. Here is the output from dmesg when the module tries to load: Intel ICH soundcard not found or device busy ...and from lspci for the hardware id: pvr2:~# lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 5833 (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 5838 00:13.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4347 (rev 01) 00:13.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4348 (rev 01) 00:13.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4345 (rev 01) 00:14.0 SMBus: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4353 (rev 17) 00:14.1 IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4349 00:14.3 ISA bridge: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 434c 00:14.4 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4342 00:14.5 Multimedia audio controller: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4341 01:06.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
