Sometimes I get nearly the same. Played .ogg or .mp3 under
xmms 1.2.7 becomes faster (but don't slow down later, for me).

Using 2.4.19 from SuSE 8.1, alsa driver 1.0.0pre2 and other alsa stuff
1.0.0pre1. My sound chipset is Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio
(rev 02), alsa module snd-intel8x0.
