Sorry, I don't contact you to provide a solution, but some questions :-\.

I'm experiencing some oops in snd_oss while playing .ogg files (intel8x0 too).
You said that you've successfully ran osstest. What's this osstest? I could
not found such file or reference in alsa-oss sources.
