there are some codes changed since 0.9.8 in this regard, so it might work with the new version. please check the mixer settings as Clemens mentioned. there are plenty of configurable elements. even if it doesn't work, don't try to start coding based on 0.9.8 any more. that makes no sense at all at this stage.
