Well,

after more reading I have found another alternative, which might be the one 
most ontopic for this mailinglist =). "dmix" seems to be something that can 
mix streams in software, what I have read is that it only works on alsa 
applications, or by using aoss. Ok, the question is of course, how does it 
compare to the other options I provided in my last post, especially latency 
wise, but CPU load is of course a issue too....also i would be interested to 
know if the additional "aoss" layer does any greater harm to cpu usage or 
latency.
Come to think of it there are so many ways of doing this, and for me it looks 
like they are all basicly the same thing (except jack maybe, which seems to 
be special)....where are the differences between arts, esd, dmix etc.
