the big picture: alsa is a work in progress, pretty much everybody who does anything with sound (on linux) says alsa is a way to go, even the kernel guys decided to put alsa into kernel (and replace oss). perhaps you could try to find out why before you are surprized by it...


tha fact that it is not as good as oss for a particular card you have _today_ is not that important... in the big picture... (even though it can be frustrating for the moment)
