From: Takashi Iwai <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [Alsa-user] Midi not working on SB Live 5.1 digital firstly, check whether /dev/sequencer really exists. if it's there, check /proc/asound/seq/oss and whether emu10k1 is registered as the synth device.
/dev/sequencer and /dev/sequencer2 both are links to existing files on /dev/sound/.
cat /proc/asound/oss/sndstat Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v0.9.7 emulation code) Kernel: Linux alligator 2.6.0-test6 #1 SMP Tue Oct 28 19:11:32 GMT 2003 i686 Config options: 0 Installed drivers: Type 10: ALSA emulation Card config: Sound Blaster Live! (rev.10) at 0xd400, irq 10 Audio devices: 0: EMU10K1 (DUPLEX) Synth devices: 0: Emu10k1 Midi devices: 0: EMU10K1 MPU-401 (UART) Timers: 7: system timer Mixers: 0: eMicro 28028
So if I understand correctly , everything seems to be fine.
I forgot to mention that I have older kernel which uses modules and midi won't work with that either.
I have alsa-0.9.8 . If You can't tell from this sndstat output what is wrong I guess I try to compile my kernel with sound as modules. But I'll wait for the response for this, so if error is easy to see I can just recompile it with sound builtin.
I think that module system in Gentoo it not very easy so I try to avoid using modules unless it's only option.
