Hi,

The problem I am having is that the "sound rate" changes and is not correct
for all applications.

Using the same hardware running Mandrake 9.1 everything is good. I am able to
run either Mandrake 9.1 or 9.2 on the same hardware so if you have any tests
for me to run then I can.

The scenario that shows the problem in Mandrake 9.2 is as follows:

Start KDE with aRTs disabled.
Press the left key in a konsole and the system bell is OK.
Start realplayer and the start-up tune is good.
Run tuxracer and the sound is FAST.
Run chromium, the sound is OK.
Using Windows media player using Codeweaver's plugin, sound is always good.

Now run realplayer again, start-up tune is now SLOW.
Run tuxracer again, the sound is now OK.
Run chromium, and the sound is SLOW.
Press the left key in konsole and the system bell is SLOW.

Also, if I run Winex then the sound is always slow.

I used Alsa 0.9.6 from Mandrake 9.2 and then I installed Alsa 0.9.8 with the
same results.

Mandrake 9.1 used Alsa 0.9.0rc8 and works great. No problems with any
applications.

In both Mandrake 9.1 and 9.2 I used the following in /etc/modules.conf

above snd-via82xx snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-slot-0 snd-via82xx

To me it looks like applications require different rates but are not able to
fully configure Alsa correctly when they run. Maybe I have a corrupt config
file somewhere ? Maybe settings are not being updated when apps close ?

I always get sound but it can be at the wrong rate.

Oh, if I use OSS driver instead then the rate is OK and I don't see this
problem. But OSS is not good in Winex and that is why I need Alsa.

So, please can someone help me ?

Thanks,

Regards,

Dean.
