If you can carry around you Alesis, too, than you won't need a
USB-audio device, I think. I thought, because you mentioned Jack, that
you also was interested in doing audio (PCM) on your laptop. 

Well, but Jack can get a bit problematic with USB audio anyways...

USB midi starts at around 40 Euro, I think, whereas real USB
audio+midi is not available below 100, mabye even below 150 Euro.
