Thanks, I will give it a try, but this might take some days. > The whole device parsing code could do with a rewrite, to be honest > - it's messy in there :) Part of the problem is that : and , are > already given meaning by mplayer - there needs to be a way of > escaping them (maybe using '' or ""). Yes: as the mplayer man page isn't very verbose in how to specify an alsa device, I did take a look into the source and found various search-and-replace actions. Escaping would be best, but it has to be done carfully, because the shell escapes " and ', too. Would it help, if a new option was introduced, that just specifies the alsa-device aplay-style? Then one could disable any special meaning of : for this option only. > > 2) to use mplayer with the dmix plugin? But only with 0.9.7b I had luck using it with my card, an M-Audio Audiophile. > Everything else complains about setting periods failing. aoss > *sometimes* works, but sometimes locks up my machine (this is with > 0.9.7b, aoss 0.9.6). But it really is slow, especially while manouvering the video with ff or rewind. Actually I now found, that "-ao sdl" works best here, even better than -ao oss. My Audiophile is a slightly strange card. It doesn't have an OSS-mixer, it reports having 10 out- and 12 in-channels, although it is a stereo card. This is the reason, why many apps don't work well or not at all when using the hw-devices. ciao -- Frank Barknecht _ ______footils.org__ ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email sponsored by: Enterprise Linux Forum Conference & Expo The Event For Linux Datacenter Solutions & Strategies in The Enterprise Linux in the Boardroom; in the Front Office; & in the Server Room http://www.enterpriselinuxforum.com _______________________________________________ Alsa-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
