Hi,

this is what I get:
> aplay -D hw /usr/share/sounds/gabber/gabber_message_recv.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/gabber/gabber_message_recv.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono
aplay: set_params:787: Broken configuration for this PCM: no configurations available

>aplay -D plughw /usr/share/sounds/gabber/gabber_message_recv.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/gabber/gabber_message_recv.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono
ALSA lib pcm_params.c:2096:(snd_pcm_hw_refine_slave) Slave PCM not usable
aplay: set_params:787: Broken configuration for this PCM: no configurations available

Thanks,

LB

Is there anything in /etc/asound.conf or in ~/.asoundrc?

I don't have any of those files.

I thought one of these files would contain an incorrect pcm definition, but this is not the case. Not having these files is just fine.

What happens when you run "aplay -D hw something.wav", or
"aplay -D plughw something.wav"?

Regards, Clemens
