Hi all,

I'm quite new to ALSA architecture and tried to install sound for my VIA8233
southbridge, which is an ALC650 model. I tried different configurations and
always get the same problem. It can be described with different symptoms ...
whatever the kernel I use (2.4.22 with alsa 0.9.6 or 0.9.7, or 2.6.0-test6 with
buit-in ALSA) I get skipping sound on various audio software. Let me explain.
When I use native aplay with a rather standard WAV file (exctracted with
paranoia), the chip starts to play about 100ms of sound then stops for 100 ms,
repeat this scheme 4 or five times (like a good DJ would do) and then jump over
the next 100ms frame of sound and then loops again forever ... if I use XMMS
with ALSA plugin, the sound is quite correct, but sometimes (every 30 seconds)
skips some part of the sound, and when I exit XMMS in the middle of a song I
hear about 20 times the last sound frame ... and if I use mpg123-0.59s with OSS
layer, the sound stays stuck on the first frame and loops forever.

I first thought about a IRQ problem (I was under an X session), but the problem
with aplay and mpeg123 remains ever under a console. My question is:

Is there a special treatment for ALC650-like chips or is it well managed by the
snd-via82xx module ? Is XMMS handling ALSA layer better than aplay for it plays
almost perfectly the sound (I doubt this) ? Has anybody an idea of how I could
solved my problem ?

I forgot to quote that it perfectly plays on XP so that it's not an ardware problem.

Thank you
