I have an integrated audio system, the AC'97 Audio Codec, in the ASUS P4PE motherboard. Here I have attached some outputs of my system, such dmesg, lspci, and so. Please tell me if you need more information.I experienced a similar problem w/ my Intel AC'97 on an ASUS notebook (M3N) and ALSA-0.9.4. If I install only the snd-i8x0, I can't user the sound if I'm not 'root' (XMMS w/ ALSA plugin crash and w/ OSS plugin gives me an error, device not found). So, I should install 2 ALSA sound cards: a dummy (snd-card-0) and a snd-i8x0 (snd-card-1), all work perfectly, a 'non-root' user can use the snd-i8x0.
I've another problem, now, that is I'm using GNOME 2.2 and by default the mixer device is the snd-card-0, so I don't know how I should set mixer default snd-card-1. Anyway, I can use my ALSA device :-)
Thx, bye, Gismo / Luca
