oh... I assumed it did, but I was obviously wrong!
I believe I have to use a software sintetizer, and that's fine.

But... I don't quite understand the "big picture" here... my goal is to
get MIDI work using Wine (actually, Cxoffice).

Therefore, I *think* I need the devices /dev/sequencer and /dev/midi to
work.

Now, I am not sure I am making sense, but... is there a way to get Alsa
drivers to use Timidity, so that those ports (/dev/midi etc.) can
actually work? (that way, I get get Wine to work as well!). 

Or am I talking absolute cr^p?
