well, I went looking, and I didnt even have this file (thought i had alsa-utils installed but guess I didnt). I installed it, then changed it to 192000, it still returns 'bad speed value'. Is it possibly reading it from another place? I find it hard to beleive that arecord ran without alsa-utils installed.
