Hi, I have a Asrock k7VT2 (VIA KT266A northbridge and VIA 8325 southbridge) with a Duron (Morgan) 1,3 Ghz. The mobo has the onboard (VIA 1612A) AC'97 sound chip, which I use with Alsa 0.9.1. I have Debian unstable, with the 2.6.0-3 testing kernel.
>From the beginning, when I first installed this machine, I expericenced cracks in the sound. With XMMS, Xine, you name it. The XMMS problem was partly solved by reconfiguring the output codec. However, after a reboot, it was back to crack :(. After a long time of experimental, I gave up. I ran an apt-get update & upgrade, and to my surprise I noticed that XMMS and Xine were functioning fine. Yes, Fine. With a warm feeling I turned down my pc. The next morning, the first thing I did was checking if everuthing was still fine. It turned out not completely:(. Every *.avi movie sounds perfect, but *.mpeg, and a mounted SVCD still sound crack. What can I do? Is this a codec problem, or a latency-problem, or a driver problem? Anyone?
