Have you compiled your own kernel ?
Is it in /usr/src/linux ?
Is /usr/src/linux a sym-link (to the right location)  ?

Alsa needs the source directory for the kernel that you actually
using, not the one that was installed with your distro originally.
(btw- if you're using custom kernels you should put them somewhere
else than /usr/src/linux)
