I have an ISA SB Awe64 value sound card on my system and I had IRQ problems with the built-in sound drivers that came with Red Hat 9.
I have just installed the alsa driver 0.9.6 but I cannot get any output of sound at all. The mixer settings have all been turned up and I have also added the lines in my /etc/modules.conf file that will save the mxier settings.
During bootup and when the kernel is looking for module dependencies, the modprobe for snd-card-0 is found and the box says ok, but following that is a series of snd-card-1 and snd-card-2 not found [failed]. What is this refering to? I've only got 1 card on my system.
When I try to play an mp3 file on xmms, no sound is output and the program locks up. If I do cat crash.au > /dsp/dev, I get "write error: Inout/Output error".
There were no problems during the install. Modprobe went fine and everything seemed well.
So far, I have never gotten any sound out of my linux operating system since installing it. Is there a way of trouble-shooting where hte rror is occuring. dmesg doesn't show anything and although I asked on the IRC channel, there was no reply on both the alsa and creative channels.
I would be happy to supply any log files that are required.
Thanks in advance for any info.
Cheers, Andrew.
