Hello everybody:

I've bought recently an ASUS P4PE motherboard, with a built-in sound device, the AC'97 audio codec (ADI AD1980 6 channel audio).

I've installed the ALSA drivers, library, utilities and oss (vr 0.9.5). I used 'alsaconf' to configure the driver, and it did not give any error message, but something does not work. No sound. I've checked the volume settings with several mixers (including alsamixer).

Each time I login, I get an error message saying that the system isn't able to open the '/dev/dsp' device (no such device), and it redirects the sound output to the null device.

I'm using Red Hat 9.0 (ker 2.4-20), and my system detects the AC'97 codec, as shown in the output of lspci. I attach that output and the dmesg output.
