All,

I was able to get the correct driver, snd-intel8x0, to correctly recognize
my sound thanks to Mikhail's help. I then installed the alsa-libraries and
the alsa utilities. Using the alsamixer I turned all of my sound up to 100%
across all channels. I then tried to get sound from the CD player that came
with RedHat 9 to no avail. I also tried using 'cat' to send a file to
pcmC0D0c and didn't here any sound. I'm missing another simple piece here.

Also, I still can't get the driver to load from modules.conf. Is there
somewhere I can get information on the proper aliases to put in my
modules.conf for this soundcard for both the driver and mixers I need? Is
there a graphical mixer I can use from GNOME so I can turn the volume up and
down?
