Well, the old 0.9.0 snddevices script created the devices under
/proc/asound/dev. With 0.9.4 they don't belong there anymore. If you
want to use alsa-0.9.4 you need to create the devices with a
snddevices from that release. You can get a alsa-driver-0.9.4 tarball
on alsa-project.org 

Just use the snddevices inside this file and then it is at least made
sure, that you have the correct devices to be able to use alsa-0.9.4

It might be that there still will be problems, but please try that
first.
