Cancel the national emergency -- this was an error on my part. Two of the files had conflicts; for some reason the Makefile did *not* generate an error and they slipped through. After another CVS checkout, I caught the conflicts and resolved them.

Watch this space for exciting updates on 0.9.5 and the via82xx (VIA 8235, Asus A7V8X).

(But I am still puzzled by these mysterious Makefile dependencies...)

When I attempt to build today's (2003-07-10) CVS of 0.9.5, the file

alsa-driver/i2c/other/ak4117.o

does not build... the system doesn't seem to build a .o file at all:

gcc -D__KERNEL__ -DMODULE=1 -I/home/moshe/code-nonbacked/alsa/alsa-driver/include -I/usr/src/linux/include -O2 -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -march=athlon -DLINUX -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fomit-frame-pointer -Wno-trigraphs -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -pipe -DALSA_BUILD -E -D__GENKSYMS__ ak4117.c
| /sbin/genksyms -k 2.4.20 > /home/moshe/code-nonbacked/alsa/alsa-driver/include/modules/i2c-other__ak4117.ver.tmp
mv /home/moshe/code-nonbacked/alsa/alsa-driver/include/modules/i2c-other__ak4117.ver.tmp /home/moshe/code-nonbacked/alsa/alsa-driver/include/modules/i2c-other__ak4117.ver

but the system attempts to *install* this file, which halts the installation. My kernel module never gets installed.

I will try and find a workaround -- should be very straightforward -- but if someone has a fast answer as to what's going on I'd appreciate it.
