Hi,

Recently, I've been experiencing audio problems with ALSA in general. I've been trying to get Flightgear 0.9.2 and TORCS to run properly, but both of them had audio problems where the simulations would just hang for about a minute before returning input control. Now, after further upgrading from Slackware 8.1 to Slackware 9.0, the simulations just flat hang for "eternity" and require a system reboot. At one point, I was told to use a recent, CVS version of Steve's Portable Game Library, http://plib.sf.net, since a bug in the slScheduler had been fixed. The problem remained with many callback errors generated when running FlightGear with ALSA. I don't know the CAUSE of this problem, but it appears to be related to ALSA in some aspect since the OSS drivers work fine with both simulations. I'm using a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz with the cs46xx driver and ALSA 0.9.4. I even tried some earlier versions of ALSA as far back as 0.9.2 with similar problems. If I don't run either simulation, I still have audio hangs occasionally where the ALSA mixer, gnome-alsamixer 0.9.3, is automatically muted. I have to use the command, alsactl restore 0, several times during any particular hour of audio use. Once again, both FlightGear and TORCS run well with no audio problems if the OSS driver is used, but since I now depend on ALSA so much, this untenable situation is driving me ... nuts, mad, insane, sleepless ;)
