I will probably add a better sound card to this system eventually.
For the time being, however, I have found a configuration that works
well enough.  Base on what I read in another thread, I tried using the
adsp device and the audio is comparable to that of the OSS driver.

:)  The sblive should be able to do everything you need.  I have an
audigy in my main system and I really like the hardware mixing support
provided by the alsa driver -- no worrying about
artsd/esd/etc. hogging the sound card.
