Dear Jaroslav and fellow ALSA users,

Please, please, reply to this repeated E-mail.
If you think this is a bug, let's submit it so it can be fixed.
If it's my error somehow, tell me how to correct it.
Is there an incompatibility between 0.9.4 and 2.4.21?

Linux, based on RH8. Kernel 2.4.21
I just installed 0.9.4 (I ran 0.9.0rc6 before)
Everything seems to be OK, EXCEPT 'aplay' no longer plays AU files.
It does play '.wav', etc.

Typical error message:
Playing Sparc Audio 'whatever.au' : Mu-Law, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono
ALSA lib pcm_mmap.c:360:(snd_pcm_mmap) shmget failed: Function not implemented
aplay: set_params:840: Unable to install hw params:
 ACCESS: RW_INTERLEAVED
 FORMAT: MU_LAW
 SUBFORMAT: STD
 SAMPLE_BITS: 8
 FRAME_BITS: 8
 CHANNELS: 1
 RATE: (8000 8001)
 PERIOD_TIME: 125000
 PERIOD_SIZE: (1000 1001)
 PERIOD_BYTES: (1000 1001)
 PERIODS: (3 4)
 BUFFER_TIME: (499999 500000)
 BUFFER_SIZE: 4000
 BUFFER_BYTES: 4000
 TICK_TIME: 10000

This happens no matter which options (if any) I use (example for full line):
'aplay -t au -c 1 -f mu_law -r 8000 whatever.au'

The 0.9.0rc6 'aplay' had no problems with AU files.
The only difference that I can think of is that 0.9.0rc6 was compiled when the
kernel was 2.4.20

Please help.
