Do you remember what cvs version was that I'll compiled last one 2003.04.04 and I have no sound. I still get in sndstat

Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

I think that is the problem. Did you compile kernel, tool and oss portion of cvs alsa? I compiled only driver, lib and utils like they advise in 8233a notes.

Did anybody get any sound from this chipset? If yes what rev. number of the driver did you use, and what options in #ALSA section ?

I've sound only with the cvs version (I've tried with the cvs of 6 hour
ago) not with the 0.9.1 nor 0.9.2 version.

Mine is a vt8233 rev 30

Cheers.
