[Alsa-user] xine problems - pcm already in use?

hello!

below is the output xine gives me, over and over again while trying to 
play a dvd using alsa 5.1 surround:

audio_alsa_out: Audio Device name = surround51
audio_alsa_out: Number of channels = 6
ALSA lib pcm.c:1719:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Invalid type for PCM surround51

i get really slow, choppy video with no sound.   i don't know how to 
"killall audio" or figure out what else might be using pcm, as a 
previous message on this message list suggested.

everything works fine when i run xine with oss.

please help!
