Firstly, try the latest version. 0.9.0rc8c is current for alsa-lib and 
-driver, rc8a for -utils and rc8 for -tools and -oss as I write. You probably 
only need lib, driver, utils and oss; tools has a few things for EMU cards 
IIRC.

Try using the pci=biosirq kernel option as the message suggests and see if 
that fixes it. If not, is the sound system enabled in the BIOS?
