Dear List, I am completely new to ALSA and hope folks will forgive my maybe very simple question.
I am trying to install ALSA 0.9.0rc6 on my Dell Inspiron 8200 which uses the Intel i820 soundcard or chipset or whatever. I am running Red Hat Linix 7.3. I managed to compile the source code successfully but could not install the module. The command modprobe snd-intel8x0 fails with an error message /lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, incuding invalid IO or IRQ parameters /lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o failed modprobe works okay on the other modules (snd-pcm-oss, snd-mixer-oss, snd-seq-oss) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
