I have a feeling it's got somethign to do with alsa mixer, because I"ve
noticved this strange effect that i"ll atttpempt to describe:

If I have mic set to capture, I can hear myself saying "test test" through
 my mic. Fine.
Then if I set Line In to capture, I can't hear the mic anymore ("capture"
selection is automaticlly taken off of Mic), and can hear my guitar through
line in. Also fine.
However, If I set capture on the LiveDrive line in, it selects it
_in_addition_ to whatever was previously selected (mic, line-ine)
and there's no way to unselect the other as a record source
(I hear the Live_Drive in through the headphones anyway, but I can't record
from it)
Take a look at my reply to a previous post of yours at

The part there should explain why "Line In" takes off the capture selection from "Mic". The rest of the controls that can be selected for capture, are obviously not in the same "capture group" (if I may call it so) as the Mic and Line In. Some of them are independent, others may be in other groups (i.e. you cannot select more than one). Nothing weird with that.

What I think is weird is that removing the capture from "Mic", silences your microphone. It can be explained with you setting something so that you hear what would be recorded. That doesn't mean that everything you record is being recorded though. For example, when I record from my Mic I don't hear it, because I've set the playback volume of the Mic to 0 (and I mute it, just to be safe).

However, if you do manage to record from the Line-In on the Live Drive - do drop me a line please. I am having a hard time recording with a microphone plugged in there.
