I have recently installed the ALSA 0.9.0rc6 modules and I am attempting to connect my keyboard MIDI to my computer.
I have a VIA8233+mpu401(UART) and an ens1371 soundcard. My keyboard is a cheap CASIO CTK-57*. And I have a Voyetra MIDI cable to connect my keyboard to the joystick port on my soundcards. The VIA8233 dsp and the two ens1371 dsp's work perfectly. Their line_in's also work enough for my guitar amp and keyboard's stereo headphone out. The FM synthesizer does not seem to be supported for the mpu401 (like I care). As I see this in sndstat Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG But I have timidity set up as an alsa sequencer server and it works just great. The following problem is independent of what soundcard port I use. And independent of useing the soundcards together or independently. The keyboard events are not being recieved by the MIDI port. Rx bytes : 0 This never changes, with either card. And it does not matter if I disable local control on the keyboard. If I toggle GM on the keyboard and attempt to send MIDI events to the keyboard, Tx bytes increases, but the keyboard doesn't play anything. I figure that both soundcards are probably not bad, so it is either the drivers, the cable, or the keyboard. I don't have another computer within easiy access; my laptop has no game port. How do I narrow down this problem? Are there any good MIDi->USB solutions that are well supported? If I had a USB cable, then I could test it on my laptop as well. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
