Hi! Rc6 driver for cs46xx has the problem of one channel having reversed phase for PCM, e.g. wrong sign of the samples of left or right channel. This causes a wrong stereophnic image and lack of bass when using loudspeakers. The actual cvs version fixes this bug. Unfortunately, SPDIF input doesn't work correctly with these newest versions.
With rc6, SPDIF input should work. Sometimes you'll have to mute/unmute the SPDIF input switch to get the input stream synchronized but sound quality should be ok then. Regarding your capturing problem: try using alsamixer in a shell, set the capture flag (hit <space>) for 'line', 'capture' and 'ADC' item, raise ADC volume to max, set capture volume as you like. Hello, yesterday I upgraded my alsa packages from rc2 to rc6, and since than I am unable to capture from my Line connector. Al I get is pure silence. my amixer shows Capture Source 4,4 Capture Volume 5, Capture Switch On amixer get Line also says for left and right: 55 on Capture On. I can play mp3's so my PCM is working propperly. Also RC2 gave no problems of this kind. I upgraded to Rc6 because I wanted to play with the optical in/out of my Xfire 1024 card.
Did you build your own optical input? I did the same (basically a TORX + buffering CMOS). Works perfectly. (At least using the wind??? driver)
Thanks for any suggestions. Henk,
