[Alsa-user] Anyone have install success under Mandrake 9?

I have a fresh Mandrake 9 install, but alsa chokes.

The ./configure is flawless, but 'make install' results in an infinite loop of warning messages such as
"[path deleted] warning: this is the location of the previous definition"
and also
"[path deleted] warning: "__ver_snd_trident_write_voice_regs" redefined
in file included from /root/alsa...
from /root/alsa...
from /root/alsa...
from ../alsa-kernel/core/info.c:22
from info.c:2:

An archive message related to this topic suggested defining CONFIG_HAVE_MUTEX_MACROS in config.h. (This had no -or imperceptible- effect.)

Please provide some clues that I might follow...
