I have a Dell Inspiron 4150 that has the Cirrus Logic CS4205 rev 3, I can
record using the mic input using alsa rc5, I think I could using rc3 as well.
I just tested it to make sure and it works for me although I have to be
careful to turn the pcm output or ardour outputs down while recording or I
get a feedback loop. The CS4205 has been good so far for me, I can get pretty
low latency with a patched kernel. Only problem I had was that if I came back
from a suspend, I could get no sound out of alsa until I moved the pcm
control in the mixer, but that might of been fixed in rc5.
