Hi folks, strange behaviour here.
Here is a Geode based embedded board, using the 5530 south-bridge with an ad1881 AC97 codec. (ICP Wafer 5825 V1.1).
Since there is no Geode support in alsa yet, I am using the built in
sb16 emulation.
This only works however if the IDE dma is turned OFF. With dma and heavy disk access, the sound stutters unbearingly.
Details:
alsa 0.9.6rc6, kernel 2.4.19
Tried two harddisks: Western Digital WD450AA and Fujitsu MK4019GAX.
Playback using mpg123 0.59s-mh4 via oss emulation.
sb16 driver at io 220, irq 5, dma 1,5
Could it be that this board does the sb16 emulation by bios software using that dreaded SMI interrupt? It already has a buggy VGA textmode emulation...
Btw, is 33% cpu load ok for a 300MHz Geode during mp3 playback?
Thanks,
Olav
