Hi all,

I'm currently running Gentoo 1.4 and I have succesfully installed the
alsa-drivers, utils, ... Alsa works fine in xmms, as does aplay.
However, when I select the alsa9 option in mplayer, I get the following
error:

AO: [alsa9] 48000Hz 2ch Signed 16-bit (Little-Endian)
alsa-init: testing and bugreports are welcome.
alsa-init: requested format: 48000 Hz, 2 channels, Signed 16-bit
(Little-Endian)alsa-init: 1 soundcard found, using: hw:0,0
alsa-init: unable to set periodsize: Invalid argument
couldn't open/init audio device -> no sound
Audio: no sound!!!

Since I have no problem using the oss-emulation instead of alsa-support
I try that but: /dev/dsp or /dev/dsp/sound doesn't exist until I run
some other app with oss support (like xmms) first. After I play an mp3
in xmms (with oss-output plugin) the /dev/dsp link is created as is the
/dev/dsp/sound and stays there until I reboot.

I don't really care which of the two issues get solved, just tell me how
to solve one of them ;-) I suspect the first could be an error of
mplayer, but the second one is definetelly an alsa (or gentoo, or mine
:-) error. Any help is appreciated :-)
