Alsa didnt work after installing new rpm kernel using up2date, although
it compiled all right. The mashine freezed when starting XMMS.
Many here on the list have had the same problems whitout finding any
solution to it. But a reader, who I cant remember his name, suggested that the problems were caused because the kernel rpm and alsa driver was not compiled
with the same version of gcc. And I was wondering which gcc version the kernel
2.4.18-17.7.x was compiled with, until I read the message log file and found out
that redhat used gcc-2.96 which is an old version. I dont have that version installed on my system so I cant test this out by compiling the alsa with this version.
But if you are one of those that have these problems, please try this out and let us know so we can eliminate it if this was not causing the problems.
