---- SUCCESS !! ----

It seems that I wasn't using the correct player. PMIDI still refuses to play MIDI
files to my card's internal FM synthesizer, but "playmidi-2.4.tar.gz" plays them
successfully!

Playmidi 2.4 can be downloaded from:

http://people.nl.linux.org/~diz/playmidi/playmidi-2.4.tar.gz

After I compiled, I just tried a "playmidi -f midifile.mid" and I was surprised to
heard the synthesizer play a few notes... Weeee! :)

Also I got to watch for the card's mixer settings: come mixer controls have strange
names in the command-line "alsamixer" utility: the FM Synth volume control is labeled
"Master Digital 1"... (?!?).

Thanks to all who replied to my original email. Looks like "I'm in business now"! :-)

Now let's try to get this LinuxDOOM "musserver" to work.... :-)

Regards,
