In fact here we bought a number of RME Hammerfall and AEB8-O but no HDSP. Plain Hammerfall can be easy tailored to your needs (eg. u can add or not one or more AEB8-0, AEB4-I or Expansion boards), while MultiFace is limited to the ports it has on the breakout box. On the other hand the DSP version features the MIDI controller and doesn't force you to fill your pc with too many cards or to learn blacksmithing and make holes in the case :) I've seen on alsa-project official site that HDSP beta driver can be found in CVS. Don't know if it works though, or if the protocol used over the 1394 is available to alsa developers.
