What version of gcc did you use to compile your kernel?

Also, what version did you use to compile alsa-driver?

I would strongly recommend you use gcc-2.95.3 to compile both.
Failing that, I would strongly recommend you use the same gcc
version to compile both the kernel and alsa-driver (alsa-libs,
alsa-utils, and alsa-oss are not subject to the same caveats,
however).

When I first downloaded 0.9.0rc2, I had a kernel compiled with
gcc-2.95.3.  I tried compiling alsa-driver with gcc-3.1, and I
had the exact same problem as you're having now.  I recompiled
alsa-driver with gcc-2.95.3, and the problems went away.
