Hello:

Wow, after several days and attempts to compile and install various
versions of the drivers, alsa-drivers 0.9.0rc3 worked for me. (neither
alsa-drivers 0.9.0rc2 or the 0.5.10b drivers would work for me. "Stable"
is mis-leading to a newbie).

The mixer and audio, or pcm, and midi work for me. I can use aplay, sox,
mpg123, xmms, alsamixer, aumix, jazz++, playmidi and I can play music
CDs. I am very pleased.(I Haven't tested any recording tools yet.) ALSA
OSS emulation works better than OSS itself did. For instance I was never
able to access the fmsynth on my AWE64, now I can. Programs like jazz++
that never worked right on OSS now work using OSS emulation. I'm a
convert, yes to ALSA.

However I used to be able to use the following command to play my sbawe
with my external midi keyboard:
[pnb@rink jazz]$ cat /dev/midi00 > /dev/midi01

This simple command no longer works, I get:
bash: /dev/midi01: No such device

What commands should I use now to do this?

Thank you,
Paul
